What is Empathy?

Empathy is the ability to read and understand people and be in-tune with or resonate with others, voluntarily or involuntarily of one's empath capacity. Empaths have the ability to scan another's psyche for thoughts and feelings or for past, present, and future life occurrences. Many empaths are unaware of how this actually works, and have long accepted that they were sensitive to others.

Empaths Sense Deep Emotions

Empathy is a feeling of another's true emotions to a point where an empath can relate to that person by sensing true feelings that run deeper than those portrayed on the surface. People commonly put on a show of expression. This is a learned trait of hiding authentic expression in an increasingly demanding society.

An empath can sense the truth behind the cover and will act compassionately to help that person express him/herself, thus making them feel at ease and not so desperately alone.

Empaths experience empathy towards family, children, friends, close associates, complete strangers, pets, plants and inanimate objects. Empathy is not held by time or space. Thus, an empath can feel the emotions of people and things at a distance. Some are empathic towards animals (ie: The Horse Whisperer), to nature, to the planetary system, to mechanical devices or to buildings etc. Others will have a combination of the above.

Empaths Have Deep Sense of Knowing

Empaths are highly sensitive. This is the term commonly used in describing one's abilities (sensitivity) to another's emotions and feelings. Empaths have a deep sense of knowing that accompanies empathy and are often compassionate, considerate, and understanding of others.

There are also varying levels of strength in empaths which may be related to the individualís awareness of self, understanding of the powers of empathy, and/or the acceptance or non-acceptance of empathy by those associated with them, including family and peers. Generally, those who are empathic grow up with these tendencies and do not learn about them until later in life.

Empathy is Inherited

Empathy is genetic, inherent in our DNA, and passed from generation to generation. It is studied both by traditional science and alternative healing practitioners. Empathy has both biological/genetic and spiritual aspects. Empaths often possess the ability to sense others on many different levels. From their position in observing what another is saying, feeling and thinking, they come to understand another. They can become very proficient at reading another personís body language and/or study intently the eye movements. While this in itself is not empathy, it is a side-shoot that comes from being observant of others. In a sense, empaths have a complete communication package.

How Empathy Works

While there is much we don't yet understand about how empathy works, we do have some information. Everything has an energetic vibration or frequency and an empath is able to sense these vibrations and recognize even the subtlest changes undetectable to the naked eye or the five senses.

Words of expression hold an energetic pattern that originates from the speaker. They have a specific meaning particular to the speaker. Behind that expression is a power or force-field, better known as energy. For example, hate often brings about an intense feeling that immediately accompanies the word. This first sphere contains the three highest orders of angels, which are closest to God. Within this sphere are the Seraphim, Cherubim and Thrones.

Seraphim The Seraphim are the highest order of angels in the Dionysian hierachy and also in Jewish law. Seraphim means "the inflamer" from the Hebrew root word saraph (burning), and they are the angels of divine fire, love and light. Seraphim have the power to purify us with the lightening flash and the flame - they hold the unveiled light of God and the great illuminators. Next to God they are the most light-filled beings in creation. Seraphim have six wings, surround the throne of God and continually sing the Trisagion, a hymn of praise to God that translates as "Holy, Holy, Holy".

The 5th-century scholar Dionysius, the Pseudo-Areopagite, had already described these. From Heaven to Earth there are three levels of spheres of angelic influence. The first and closet to God are the Seraphim, Cherubim and Thrones; the second includes the Dominations, Virtues and Powers; and in the lowest rank are the Principalities, Archangels and Angels. The Celestial Hiearchy of Dionysius, with its three ranks of three, was inspired by the work of neo-Platonic philospher Plotinus (c.205-270 CE).

No one, it seems, can agree on the ordering of the celestial hierarchies. Authorities from other Christian sources and other religeons list different celestial hierachies and even vary the order in which they are listed. The Pharisees (who were active from 536 BCE to 70 CE), upon whose thought traditional Judaism is based, believed in angels, as did the celebrated Greek philosphers Aristotle and Socrates. Aristotle called them intelligences, while Socrates had his daimon, an attendant spirit who guided him throughout his life. Angels are the invisible power of creation, and our guardian angel is our first link to this invisible world. Our guardian angel's task is to teach and guide us. They help us build on the knowledge we have already acquired by other means. They link information together and help us discover the underlying patterns and fundamental insights of God's creation. Angelic revelation can come in a dream or the waking moment immediatly after a dream, but channelling is a more direct route to angelic inspiration.

It is important to establish a strong loving personal friendship with your guardian angel, based on trust and mutual respect. This helps you to build and identify with your own angelic consciousness. Once you have suitably raised your vibrational rate by uniting with your guardian angel it is easy to channel other angelic beings.

Your guardian angel's tone is always loving and supporting. All angels, without exception, respect our dignity and free will. Your angels will never sound authoritarian or commanding or make choices for you. If the tone of what you are channelling is ever less than respectful, or at any time you feel yourself taken over or controlled by any outside force, you should immediately stop your connection with this energy.

Dreams are an excellent way of working with angels. During your slepp your spirit travels to the higher or lower astral realms. If you are plagued by nightmares, your spirit goes to the lower astral regions. Our thoughts, words and actions create our level of consciousness. By focusing on positive human virtues, we are able to raise our vibrational rate which banishes nightmares and allows us to visit the spiritual homes of the archangels.

Each archangel angel has a temple "anchored" in the etheric realm (our physical world where our bodies serve as vechicles for our souls), which lies within the influence of the Earth's planetary grid. This is the earth's subtle energy field, very much like the system of ley lines. How to chose an angel card

Pick a card at the beginning of each day. Spend a moment focusing on your day ahead and see which angel card attracts your attention. Keep your card with you or place it where it will be clearly visible to you throughout the day.
Chose a card just before you go to sleep, slip it under your pillow and let the angels inspire your dreams.
Chose a card at the beginning of any new project, venture or cycle, and on your birthday or anniversary.
At New Year chose 12 cards for the coming year - one for each month - and make a note of each card on your calendar.
Chose an angel card for a friend who needs help. Focus on your friend's problem - healing, job interview or exams - and surround them in the angelic quality of the card.

Using Angel Cards

Angels cards are an excellent way to communicate with angels. Packs can be purchased from most New Age shops. They were originally designed to encourage individual creativity and to enhance interaction in relationships. Angel cards provide positive key words that help you focus on a particular aspect of your inner life.
To enhance the experience of communicating with the angels, however, it is much more effective to make your own set of cards. It is not difficult and you do not have to be artistic. All you need is a pen and some stiff paper or card - preferalbly white on one side and coloured on the other.
You can stick some small shiny angel shapes onto the cards, which "dedicates" them to the angels. On the white side of the card write a positive quality that you wish to bring into your life. This is called a key word.
There is no definitive list of positive qualities associated with angels, so you can make as many cards as you like. You can also add to your cards as your understanding develops. Read more

Experiment with the layout, if an item irritates or upsets you, or is less than inspiring, remove it. You could place crystals, angelic art, photographs of loved ones, shells, bells, incense, candles, flowers, essential oils, religious icons, angel cards, affirmation cards, wind-chimes, feathers or a small notebook and pencil on your altar.

Remember to place a representation of anything you want to bring into your life, such as love, spiritual wisdom, compassion, peace or abundance. We can reinforce our angelic connection by asking angels to help us achieve our goals to motivate us to make our dreams come true. You may be surprised, however, at how dramatically different your wishes become once your consciousness merges with the angelic stream of love and light.
Before we call in the angels, we need to look at what affirmation is and to show you that it exists. We make positive or negative affirmations all day long. Our body belives every word we say. How many times during the day have you found yourself making a negative statement about yourself?
From an early age we are taught to use what linguists call normilization - a verb ( a doing or process word) being made into a noun (a static thing). For example, if you say you cannot handle a relationship, you are talking about a relationship as if it was a static physical thing, rather than talking about relating - a dynamic, active process of communication. The problem arises because the art of relating, when it is referred to as a relationship, is percieved as static and no responsibility is being taken for the active, continuing process of relating to another person. When someone systematically nominalizes, they restrict the choices they have because they are percieving the world in a fixed way.

Purging anger

It is also effective to write to someone who has upset you or caused you pain. Since you are going to burn the letter after you have written it, there is no point in holding anything back. As you write to the person, tell them exactly how you feel. Anger initially prepares the body to correct injustice, but must be released. When it is not discharged, it solidifies and hardens into hatred. We must honour our emotions, but we also need to elevate our consciousness, which is a deliberate act of personal empowerment.
Sometimes we may refuse to forgive in order to punish. A simple way of releasing anger towards someone is to acknowledge what you are truly feeling ablout that person's behaviour,determin the emotions that exist, then consciously choose not to punish yourself for carrying this emotion. You can say out loud, " I now intend to release all my suffering over this situation". Then visualize the person you need to forgive surrounded in angelic light. Read more

A simple way to purify your thoughts is to write down all your concerns, listing everything that makes you angry or causes you to behave in an unangelic way. Do not hold anything back, just keep writing, tell your angels what makes you fearful, disillusioned or disappointed. Emotions have an effect on healing and health. When we relive negative emotions, it causes a reaction that is percieved clairvoyantly as dark areas in the aura, which can develop into holes or tears if the negative event is relived many times. Connecting to the higher self

Physical purification consisting of fasting and cleansing will improve our higher-self connection. Fasting should be undertaken for at least 24 hours (abstain from solid food but not liquids) Addictive foods and substances should also be avoided. Fasting relaxes the subtle-energy systems, and calms and focuses the mind.
Soothing herbal teas such as chamomile relax the body and mind, allowing heightened states of awareness to manifest. Purifying scented candlelit baths containing sea-salt, halite crystals, herbs, flower petals and aromatherapy oils profoundly open our hearts to spiritual beauty.

Invoking Angels

Angels are God's celestial messengers. They are not our servants, but God's servants, so it is not appropriate to worship them. Even if they are awe-inspiring, remeber that they are a reflection of the perfection of God and it is this energy that opens our hearts in adoration.
Angels do not have free will as humans do, but respond to the call of God. Angels cannot interfere with our own free will. When we call upon angelic aid, we must do so from a place within ourselvesof love, humility, trust and clarity. As long as your request is positive and does not interfere with anyone elese's free will, and does not interfere with your life plan, then the angels will be able to answer your call.
In the past, mystics and saints spent many years mediatating, praying and fasting before they experienced major spiritual experiences. Today, because so many people are using meditation practice on a daily basis and the veil between our world and the world of spirit is becoming even thinner, we can move rapidly into the angelic realms.

Sometime angels manifest their pressence in ways that anyone can see. You can ask an angel to appear as proof of your angelic contact. Here are a few common angel signs.

Clouds You may see angels in cloud formations, especially over sacred sites or when you have asked for angelic assistance. Sometimes you will see clouds that resemble feathers.

Flowers Many people find that their flowers last longer on their angelic alter. One sudent of angel lore found that her roses lasted months and, after an especially profound encounter, one of the roses changed colour.

Feathers White feathers may appear in the most unlikely of places. When you have found your white feather, carry it around with you to keep your angel close. Once, when I was teaching an angel seminar, I mentioned that white feathers are a common angel sign. After the talk a woman in the seminar said that despite what she had heard she was not convinced of the existence of angels. Just at that moment, one of the other students noticed a pure white feather stuck to the sleeve of her cardigan.

Words Often after you have asked for angelic help you will hear the word angel mentioned in a song on the radio or on television, or someone will say the word to you in an unlikely context.

Crystals Angels can suddlenly appear in your crystals. They appear in angelic crystals such as Celestite, Seraphinite or Danburite, but frequently an angel form will manifest itself in your Clear Quartz crystal after you start reaching out to the angelic realm.

Sensing the Presence of Angels

As people become consciously aware of angels, the veil between our world and theirs becomes thinner. You do not need to be clairavoyant or physic to experience angelic contact. It is also important to remember that angels actually wish to communicate with you, they seek daily communication.
Angels are obedient divine beings who obey cosmic law. It is their duty to give freely of themselves, as an outpouring of their divine essence of love and light. Angelic assistance is always available, all you have to do is ask.
Most people never actually see an angel, but they are aware of their angels's pressence. Angels can be percieved by any of the human senses. Here are some ways in which you may become aware of the pressence of angels:

The atmosphere of the room suddenly changes, you feel surrounded by a warm glow. The air tingles artound you or you feel a rush of energy down your spine.

A beautiful fragrance suddenly fills the room. This sweet perfume is described in different ways - as the aroma of summer flowers or sweet myrrh.

You experience a particular taste sensation, often sweet - the taste of heavenly ambrosia. Alternatively, you hear an ethereal sound, angelic music is often associated with healing and renewal.

You have feelings of love and an overwhelming sense of deep peace.

Coloured lights appear from nowhere. Shafts of brilliant light or even spheres of colour dance in front of your eyes, especially when you are working with the healing angels or when drifting off to sleep.

During angelic meditation sessions you experience a dazzlingly bright light in front of you, even when your eyes are closed.

You feel the pressence of angels wings brushing against you or enfolding you, or even angelic hands touching you on your shoulder.

In meditation many people experience the "angelic breeze" which is like a warm summer wind gently ruffling your hair. Some say that it is the angels uplifting the thousand - petal lotus flower (the symbol of the Crown Chakra).

Declutter your life

To make room in your life for angels, you need to clear your home of all clutter. Clear away your unwanted possesions, give them to charity or recycle them. Clean and freshen your home on all levels. Opem windows daily to let out stale energy - it will be cleansed and rendered harmless by natural daylight. Use sound to break up stagnent energy, a crsystal singing bowl, bells, gongs, ting-shaws (small Tibetan cymbals), rattles or drums are useful for this. Clapping your hands together is also an effective way of breaking up stagnent energy - especially in the corners of a room. Use angelic music to raise the vibration. Remeber, the quickest way to open your Heart Chakra is with beautiful music. Check all areas of your home for any objects that are less than uplifting - clearing out your physical junk helps to clear your mind. Old furniture and especially second-hand jewellery needs extra cleansing, use incense and allow the smoke to carry away unwanted vibrations - remeber to leave a window open as an exit route for stale energy. Discard Clothing you have not worn in the last two years, especially clothes that no longer fits you or looks drab. If you buy second-hand or vintage clothes, remeber to have them cleaned thoroughly before wearing them. Avoid people and places that drag your energy down.
